Educational Sessions

At UNMC, we prioritize resident education by protecting Wednesday afternoons for dedicated didactic sessions. These structured learning experiences are designed to complement the clinical training residents receive in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

During these sessions, residents engage with a diverse range of educational formats led by department faculty, guest speakers from UNMC and Nebraska Medicine, and invited external experts. In addition, residents contribute to the academic environment by presenting at OB-GYN Grand Rounds, sharing knowledge with peers and faculty alike.

Wednesday Didactic Sessions Include:

  • Grand Rounds – Department-wide presentations on current topics in obstetrics and gynecology.
  • Case Conference – In-depth discussions of complex or instructive clinical cases.
  • Journal Club – Critical appraisal of recent literature to foster evidence-based practice.
  • Morbidity and Mortality Conference – Reflective reviews aimed at improving patient care and safety.
  • Core Lecture Series – A comprehensive curriculum covering essential OB-GYN topics.

Additional Educational Opportunities Throughout the Week:

  • Cancer Conference
  • High-Risk Obstetrics Planning Meetings
  • Service Teaching Rounds
  • Gynecologic Oncology Tumor Board
  • Gynecology Pre-Operative Conference

These sessions are integral to our commitment to developing well-rounded, knowledgeable, and compassionate OB-GYN physicians.
