Why US Fellowship: I knew I wanted to go into academic emergency medicine and felt that a fellowship was my way into academics. I was considering multiple options, but ultrasound was the fellowship that got my attention. It allowed me to become an expert in a skill that I use constantly. It would make me a better physician and allow me to teach others how to better take care of patients. Excellent patient care has always been my first priority and always will be. Having a skill that allows me to do this was my main reason for choosing an ultrasound fellowship.
AEMUS Training at UNMC: I really enjoyed my fellowship year at UNMC. My education in ultrasound was top tier. I had a great mentor in Dr. Marx in not only bedside ultrasound but also education and career development. There is an established curriculum that allows me to comprehend and digest the different aspects of emergency ultrasound in an organized manner. There were ample opportunities for teaching which I enjoyed, but also helped me understand ultrasound better. I also had multiple opportunities to rotate with other specialties and identify certain tips and tricks to help with my exams and evaluations. The clinical load was also ideal. I had the chance to work in the community ED, which helped me grow and develop my independent practice but also got to work in the academic center with the more challenging patient population but allowed me to work with residents and students. I am glad that I chose UNMC for my fellowship.
