Welcome Message from the Chair

Sarosh Rana, MD, MPH

Welcome to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Nebraska Medicine.

It is my privilege to join this distinguished department as the Chris J. and Marie A. Olson Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Our department consists of 58 faculty members and continues to expand, collectively providing comprehensive women's healthcare services throughout Nebraska.

Our team provides the full spectrum of obstetric and gynecologic care, from routine wellness visits to the management of complex high-risk pregnancies. Approximately 2,000 babies are delivered at Nebraska Medicine annually. We offer specialized services including maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, urogynecology, reproductive endocrinology, and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. The Olson Center for Women's Health serves as our clinical home, where patients receive coordinated, multidisciplinary care in a setting designed specifically for women's unique healthcare needs.

As an academic medical center, we are committed to training the next generation of women's health providers through our ACGME-accredited residency program, which has been preparing outstanding physicians for decades. Our faculty are engaged in meaningful research that advances the field of women's health, from basic science investigations to clinical trials that directly improve patient outcomes.

As we look to the future, we are particularly focused on addressing one of Nebraska's most pressing healthcare challenges: ensuring access to quality obstetrical care for women in rural communities. With much of our state's population living in areas where obstetrical services are limited or absent, we are developing innovative approaches to bridge these gaps. Through strategic partnerships with rural hospitals and clinics, expanded telehealth capabilities, remote patient monitoring programs, and mobile ultrasound services, we are working to ensure that geographic location does not determine the quality of maternal care a woman receives. Our goal is to create a connected network where subspecialty expertise can reach every corner of Nebraska, making our state a model for rural obstetrical care delivery.

Our department's strength lies in our people—physicians, nurses, researchers, and staff who bring expertise, compassion, and dedication to their work every day. Together with Nebraska Medicine's comprehensive resources and UNMC's academic excellence, we provide our patients with access to the latest advances in women's healthcare while maintaining the personalized attention that defines excellent patient care.

Whether you are a patient, referring provider, learner, or colleague, I invite you to explore our services and discover how our department can serve you. We are honored to be entrusted with the health of Nebraska's women and remain committed to providing exceptional care with expertise and compassion.
