April 24, 1997 — Research Study Seeks Overweight, Low-income Women Who Want to Lose Weight, Improve Health, Earn $50

The University of Nebraska Medical Center is seeking low-income, overweight
women between the ages of 19 and 64 to participate in "Women’s Healthy
Lifestyle Project," a research study designed to help improve eating
and activity habits.

Women will receive $50 upon completion of the six-month study. Participants
will be asked to meet at the UNMC Family Health Care Center at 31st and
Q Streets where they will receive their first interview and a booklet to
help attain their weight goals. Each participant may be paired with a nurse
practitioner student who will provide assistance with healthy eating education
and activity throughout the study. Upon completion of the interview, women
will receive $25.

During the six-month study, participants may be asked to visit the health
center once a month at their convenience. After six months and completion
of a second interview, women will receive another $25. For more information
