Kevin Corley, M.D., Joins UNMC to Establish New Pediatric Diabetes Program

Kevin Corley, M.D., has joined the University of Nebraska Medical Center as director of pediatric diabetology and endocrinology and as a full-time assistant professor of pediatrics. As a pediatric diabetologist in the UNMC department of pediatrics and the Munroe-Meyer Institute for Genetics and Rehabilitation, Dr. Corley will split his time between teaching and treating children with diabetes and other disorders of the endocrine glands.

Since 1981, Dr. Corley has been director of pediatric endocrinology and diabetology for Children’s Hospital in Omaha. Since 1984, he had served as a volunteer faculty member at UNMC and as a part-time faculty member at Creighton University. He will continue to hold this position with Creighton.

Prior to coming to Omaha, he worked one year as a pediatrician at the Community Health Plan of Suffolk County in Hauppauge, N.Y., a New York City suburb. From 1975 to 1978, he was stationed in Hawaii as a pediatrician in the U.S. Navy, and from 1978 to 1980, he was a clinical instructor in pediatrics at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

“Dr. Corley brings with him a vast amount of experience and knowledge that will impact positively on the lives of children,” said Bruce Buehler, M.D., director of the Munroe-Meyer Institute for Genetics and Rehabilitation and chairman of the UNMC department of pediatrics. “He is a leader in pediatric diabetes in Nebraska. We’re excited to add him to our full-time staff.”

Active in a variety of associations, Dr. Corley has held several key posts with the Great Plains Region of the American Diabetes Association, serving as president of the organization from 1993 to 1995 and vice president from 1991 to 1993. In addition, he is a member of the Endocrine Society and the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society.

While at Children’s Hospital, he served part time as director of medical education and was a member of several committees, including the medical education committee and the constitution and bylaws committee.

A native of New York City, Dr. Corley received his bachelor’s degree in 1968 and his medical degree in 1972, both at the University of Illinois. He completed his internship in 1973 and his pediatric residency training in 1975 at the University of Michigan Affiliated Hospitals in Ann Arbor. He completed a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology in 1980 at the University of Michigan Medical Center.
