The election was held during the annual meeting of the National Congress of Family Practice Residents in Kansas City. It marked the first time a UNMC resident physician has been elected to the resident delegate position in the organization, which includes more than 20,000 members.

As resident delegate, Dr. McPherson will bring forward to the academy any resolutions residents may have and relay information from the academy to the residents, such as changes in the bylaws, billing inquiries and settlements. Dr. McPherson also is the state delegate of the resident body for the academy and will represent all family physician residents in the country.

She earned her undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1993 and her medical degree in 1997 from University of Nebraska Medical Center. A member of the academy since 1993, she has also been a member of the Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Association since 1993.

Dr. McPherson said she would like to practice in a rural community and exercise all aspects of family medicine after completing her residency. UNMC is the only public academic health science center in the state.

Through its commitment to research, education and patient care, UNMC has established itself as one of the country’s leading centers for and cancer research and treatment and solid organ transplantation. In addition, UNMC’s educational programs are responsible for training more health professionals practicing in Nebraska than any other institution.
