John Repke, M.D., has been named
the Chris J. and Marie A. Olson Professor of Obstetrics and
Gynecology and chairman of the department of obstetrics and
gynecology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. His
appointment is effective March 1.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Dr.
Repke has held faculty appointments at The Johns Hopkins
University School of Medicine and Harvard Medical School. In
1992, he was appointed associate professor of obstetrics and
gynecology and director of maternal and fetal medicine at Brigham
and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
"Dr. Repke brings to us a
wealth of experience in working collaboratively with private
practice physicians while building programs that became
recognized nationally for their quality of service and academic
excellence," said Harold M. Maurer, M.D., dean of the UNMC
College of Medicine. "Under Dr. Repke’s chairmanship, we
look forward to a thriving department at UNMC and the Nebraska
Health System. I am excited by what we can achieve
together."
A 1974 graduate of Georgetown
University in Washington, D.C., Dr. Repke obtained his medical
degree from New York Medical College in 1978.
An expert in maternal-fetal
medicine, Dr. Repke’s research interest is hypertension in
pregnancy. He has been published extensively, taught courses,
presented findings at national and international meetings, and
made several educational films. He also is the recipient of
several annual outstanding teacher awards and is listed in the
"Best Doctors in America" directory.
Dr. Repke is a member of several
national and international societies, including the American
College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Society of Perinatal
Obstetricians and the Society of Gynecologic Investigation.
He serves on the board of the
North American Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy
and chaired the program committee of the 10th World Congress of
the International Society for the Study of Hypertension in
Pregnancy.
