Satellite workshop to explore ‘life cycle’ of grant budgets

UNMC grant administrators and support staff are being encouraged to attend a satellite workshop that will help explain regulations affecting research and the issues relevant to compliance.

Participants will be introduced to the life cycle of grant budgets, beginning with the proposed stage through expenditures and ending with the audit examination.

The four-hour, live workshop, titled “Exploring the Lifecycle of Costs: Budget to Audit,” is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, in the College of Nursing Building, Room 1010.

Workshop leaders will include Jane A. Youngers, director of grants management at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio; Mary Ellen Sheridan, associate vice president for research and director of university research administration at the University of Chicago; and Jerry G. Fife, director of the office of contract and grant accounting at Vanderbilt University. The presenters are experienced explorers in all aspects of a “life cycle” approach to understanding the budget and financial management of sponsored research agreements.

As seating is limited, participants are asked to register as soon as possible by completing the online form. Registration will be granted on a first-come basis. The registration deadline is Monday, June 16.

A sack lunch will be provided to workshop participants.

With questions, please contact Elizabeth Fowlkes, compliance analyst in the Office of Budget, Analysis and Financial Compliance (559-5222 or efowlkes@unmc.edu) or Crystal Miller, assistant director of Sponsored Programs Administration (559-7456 or ccmiller@unmc.edu).

UNMC Vice Chancellor for Research Thomas Rosenquist, Ph.D., is sponsoring the workshop’s broadcast to UNMC.
