After weather postponed two previously scheduled attempts to play the tournament, Mother Nature cooperated on Monday, with 20 four-person teams teeing it up for the annual event. In all, nearly $9,000 was raised for the SHARING (Student Health Alliance Reaching Indigent Needy Groups) Clinic, a student-run clinic in south Omaha that combines service to underserved populations with a learning opportunity for students.
Sponsors of this year’s tournament included Durham Resources; Gaines Pansing & Hogan Law Firm; Metro Health Federal Credit Union; the UNMC department of surgery; and The Nebraska Medical Center.

Paul Paulman, M.D., a faculty adviser to the SHARING Clinic, told the golfers that their participation made a difference in the lives of those whom the clinic serves.

The clinic, open once a week year-round, serves about 16 to 20 patients each night that it receives patients.

Golfers who participated in the tournament played either the front-nine or back-nine at the Field Club, in a scramble format. Prizes for first, second and third places were awarded, as were pin prizes on each hole.

In a new twist to the tournament this year, golfers could pay $5 to participate in a chipping contest following the round. Randy Sell of Union Back won the men’s contest, nestling one of his two shots to within 1 foot, 2 inches.
