Securing Lotus Notes Web access

In order to provide more secure Lotus Notes Web Access, UNMC will be implementing SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) for Web access to the Lotus Notes e-mail servers.

In order to provide more secure Lotus Notes Web Access, UNMC will implement SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) for Web access to the Lotus Notes e-mail servers. That means when individuals login to their Lotus Notes e-mail from a Web browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape, the session will be encrypted. This is an extra measure of security that UNMC ITS is implementing to ensure that access to UNMC’s mail system remains secure. This change will only impact Web access to Lotus Notes — at this time all other forms of accessing the Lotus Notes servers will remain unchanged. ITS plans to implement this early Wednesday, Oct. 22.

Web access functionality will remain unchanged, but when you try to go to the normal Lotus Notes Web site, you will be redirected to UNMC’s secure site. You also may notice that instead of the Web address starting with http:// it will begin with https:// (this designates a Web page as a secure site).

If you see a security alert message like the one below, click “OK” and you will be taken to the UNMC Lotus Notes Web page. At that point you can login and proceed to your Web mail, as you did prior to the update.
