James “J.B.” Milliken on Wednesday was the second finalist for the University of Nebraska president position to make a formal visit to UNMC.

Milliken was interviewed by the Chancellor’s Council and had a private interview with Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D. He also heard presentations during a tour of the state-of-the art research and education facilities at the Durham Research Center.

Milliken, 47, is the senior vice president for university affairs of the University of North Carolina system. From 1988 to 1998, he worked at the central administration at the University of Nebraska, becoming corporate secretary in 1990 and adding the title and duties of vice president for external affairs in 1993. Milliken received an English degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a law degree from New York University.

Milliken is one of four finalists vying to become the next president of the University of Nebraska. The others are Peter Sloat Hoff, Ph.D., president of the University of Maine’s flagship campus; Adm. James Ellis, commander of the U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base; and Kim Robak, vice president for external affairs and corporate secretary for the University of Nebraska.

Dr. Hoff visited UNMC on Monday. Adm. Ellis is scheduled to come to campus today, while Robak’s interview at UNMC is scheduled for Friday.
