UNMC is a storyteller's treasure chest. Look inside and you'll find gold: It may be the story of a scientist who has made a breakthrough in Alzheimer's disease. It may be a health professional who volunteers at a local health clinic. It may be an employee whose extraordinary work earned them the Chancellor's Gold U Award. It may be a professor who has shared his mastery of anatomy with hundreds of students. And, it may be a philanthropist whose support has changed UNMC's landscape. It is the job of UNMC's Public Relations' publications team to help mine and share the stories of the state's only academic health science center — both on campus and in the community — through a variety of print and online resources. "The publications team works hand-in-hand with the department's media team to tell the stories of UNMC to faculty, staff and students, as well as alumni and friends," said Karen Burbach, associate director of publications. "By sharing our stories, we further elevate UNMC among all Nebraskans and acknowledge the life-changing work being done here." In collaboration with the entire public relations department, the publications team creates awareness of, and generates support for, the university's academic, research and public service missions through its online and print publications. UNMC stories are told through publications that include:

  • UNMC Today — The daily online employee newsletter, which dates back to 1999, resembles a small newspaper with event coverage, features, announcements and classifieds. Its regular features include Lookin' at U, Off the Clock, Wellness Wednesday, Spotlight on New Faculty and UNMC in 3. Editor Chuck Brown wants UNMC Today to be an essential source of news for UNMC employees and a fun read that helps build camaraderie across campus. Please send story/photo ideas to today@unmc.edu.
  • UNMC Connect — The campus/alumni magazine is published twice a year — each February and August — by public relations and the department of alumni affairs. The magazine highlights the faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends — the people who are UNMC — and keeps alumni connected to their alma mater. Each issue also includes alumni news and online video Web extras. Please send story ideas to editor Liz Kumru at ekumru@unmc.edu.
  • UNMC Discover — The research magazine is published twice a year — each May and November — by public relations and the vice chancellor for research. The magazine highlights the important research being done at UNMC and is supported by UNeMed Corporation, the technology transfer organization for UNMC. Each issue also features online video Web extras. Please send research story ideas to editor Liz Kumru at ekumru@unmc.edu.
  • UNMC Today special editions — This commemorative publication marks significant milestones at UNMC and was launched in connection with the September groundbreaking of the new Home Instead Center for Successful Aging.
