UNMC Physicians offers access to new urgent care clinic

Families understand that sometimes unexpected things happen.

Children get sick over the weekend, a family member slips and falls after work or a baby runs a temperature on Saturday and waiting until Monday to see a physician is just not an option.

These types of situations make urgent care centers a great place to seek care and a viable alternative to the emergency room.

On July 1, UNMC Physicians’ Eagle Run clinic at 13708 W. Maple Road will join forces with AfterOurs Urgent Care in order to expand services to patients, particularly during evenings and weekends.

“Being sick or having an accident is never fun and usually not convenient for families,” said Michael Sitorius, M.D., chairman of family medicine at UNMC. “We are excited to work with AfterOurs so that our patients have access to care in an expanded format and we can maintain excellent continuity of care.”

UNMC Physicians will continue to provide primary care services at Eagle Run Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., while AfterOurs will be available evenings, weekends and holidays until midnight to treat urgent medical needs.

For employees at UNMC and UNMC Physicians who participate in the University of Nebraska medical insurance plan through Blue Cross Blue Shield, AfterOurs is a member of the BluePreferred network (PPO provider).

“AfterOurs strives to support patients in conserving time and financial resources, while respecting and perpetuating the primary care relationship,” said Dennis Bierle, chief operating officer for UNMC Physicians. “To achieve this, AfterOurs makes sure that it keeps patients, the primary care physician and other caregivers informed as to all aspects of the care that is provided.”

AfterOurs also gives patients without primary care providers referrals to community primary care physicians for their follow-up and preventative care needs.
