The Nebraska Tar Wars State Poster Contest was sponsored by the Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians Foundation as well as the UNMC and Creighton University Family Medicine Interest Group.

Thousands of students from across Nebraska participated in the 2009 Tar Wars Program, which combined the classroom presentations with the volunteer efforts of health care professionals and educators to promote tobacco prevention.

Tar Wars is an educational program and poster contest the discourages tobacco use among the country’s youth and focuses on:

  • Attitudes about tobacco use;
  • The effects of tobacco on the body; and
  • How different messages in tobacco advertising influence young people.
