UNMC brings screenings, information and fun to state fair

Whether spreading awareness about the latest innovations in robotic surgery or preparing communities for disaster, the University of Nebraska Medical Center is a trusted resource in Nebraska and the region.

UNMC brings those resources to the Nebraska State Fair, Aug. 30-31, to share with fairgoers.

Join experts from UNMC for presentations on simple ways to live a healthier lifestyle, organ donation, cancer prevention and the vast array of health career opportunities in the Bosselman Conference Center inside the Events Center on the fairgrounds.

“We are excited to have an increased presence at the state fair and share our expertise with the people of Nebraska,” said Bill O’Neill, interim director of public relations at UNMC.

Kids will enjoy hands-on demonstrations, puppet shows and costumed characters focused on poison control and prevention, the inner workings of the human body and building awareness and acceptance of people with disabilities.

And the whole family can learn more about taking care of their hearts through a family Science Café presentation with UNMC cardiologist and College of Medicine alum, Dan Anderson, M.D., Ph.D., on Aug. 31 at 5 p.m. Snacks will be provided courtesy of the UNMC Alumni Association until 8 p.m.

Free blood pressure checks will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 30 and skin cancer screenings from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug. 31.
