Boomerang children, accordion families

Is your empty nest refilling?

Financial difficulties, loss of a job, personal challenges – there are many reasons an adult child may need or want to move back into their parents’ home.

On Thursday, March 21, Gail Olson, Ph. D., will discuss the issues raised in this situation, whether parents are delighted to have your child home or concerned about how the transition will play out for the entire family. Another factor for many parents is finding themselves “sandwiched” between their adult children moving home and caring for their aging parents.

Although every family will react differently, one thing is certain: there are things parents and adult children can do to make the process go more smoothly.

If you are facing these challenging situations – or are concerned you may be in the future – join Dr. Olson for this informative hour. Questions are welcome, so bring your lunch and be ready to learn.

Dr. Olson will speak from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in the Durham Research Center auditorium (Room 1002).
