Domestic violence focus of Schwartz Rounds

“Hope to Healing: The Journey of a Domestic Violence Survivor” will be the focus of a panel discussion held April 7 as part of the Schwartz Center Rounds.

The event will be held from noon to 12:50 p.m. in the Sorrell Center, Room 1005.

The panel of presenters will include:

  • Beth Abramson, Omaha Police Department Domestic Violence Unit;
  • Jen Meckna, Douglas County domestic violence attorney’s office;
  • Jen Tran, a sexual assault nurse examiner/sexual assault response team nurse; and
  • A representative from the Women’s Center for Advancement.

Participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the role of each presenter in the care of a domestic violence (DV) survivor.
  • Describe how to access available DV resources.
  • Identify ways to improve the traditional model of care for DV.
  • Describe ways to enhance teamwork between the various represented roles.
  • Understand the process of care for a typical DV case.

The panel is presented by Empower, a student-led, interprofessional initiative founded in 2008 as a UNMC Service Learning Academy Legacy project based in the College of Public Health.

Lunch will be provided for the first 65 attendees.
