The UNMC Department of Orthopaedic Surgery will host The Hip Society’s 2016 Rothman-Ranawat Traveling Fellowship on Monday and Tuesday.

The fellowship program is open to four young orthopaedic surgeons (adult joint reconstruction specialty) from all over the world. The fellows spend four weeks visiting some of North America’s most prominent orthopaedic programs, and this year, UNMC has been chosen as a host site for the first time. The fellows will spend two days at UNMC, learning from our surgeons, participating in grand rounds and resident conferences, touring our Biomechanics Laboratory and giving presentations.

Presentations will discuss various topics including hospital readmissions, cartilage restoration and prosthetic joint infection, among others. Talks are open to the campus community.

Being chosen as a host site is an honor for the department. Chair Kevin Garvin, M.D., is the future president of The Hip Society and the society’s only member from Nebraska.

Fellows include:

  • Derek Amanatullah, M.D., Ph.D., Stanford University, Redwood City, Calif.
  • Bharath Loganathan, M.B.B.S., D.Ortho., Shalby Hospital, Ahmedabad, Gujaret, India
  • Atul Kamath, M.D., University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia
  • Matthew Wilson, M.B.B.S., Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre, Exeter, Devon, U.K.
