New hours for Nebraska and Storz Cafes

Most of us can only imagine the coordination that goes into creating more than 5,600 meals daily for patients, visitors and employees. Thankfully, our food services staff has a lot of experience with making delicious, nutritious food for every customer. But it’s not without its challenges.

When exploring how to better meet diners’ needs during busy mealtime hours, leaders determined that making some changes to food offerings during non-peak times could improve the overall experience for people using our cafeterias and ordering patient food service. The following changes are being made to improve service when customers need it most.

Beginning Monday, Dec. 2:

  • Storz Cafe will no longer provide breakfast. It will be open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The menu will be revised in early 2020 to allow for faster turnaround.
  • The coffee cart in Storz Pavilion will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. In early 2020, additional food offerings will be available.
  • Wait service in the Storz Pavilion dining room will be discontinued. Customers who prefer a sit-down dining experience should visit The Restaurant in the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.

Beginning Wednesday, Jan. 1:

  • Nebraska Cafe in University Tower will close on weekdays at 2 p.m., after the peak lunch rush. Data shows that traffic in Nebraska Cafe dies down considerably after 2 p.m. Hours on weekends will be 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • For individuals wanting to purchase food after 2 p.m. or on weekends, they can choose from expanded food options in the C-Store (located just down the hall from Nebraska Cafe) or can visit the Clarkson Cafe, located in Clarkson Tower. Clarkson Cafe will remain open 24 hours, seven days a week.
  • The 10% discount for senior citizens and students will be discontinued.
