New ‘RN Huddle’ podcast addresses COVID-19

The UNMC College of Nursing’s latest “RN Huddle” podcast, titled “COVID-19 Review by Nurses on the Front Lines,” highlights the HEROES program, as well as steps to mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Hosted by Heidi Keeler, Ph.D., director of continuing nursing education and director of the Office of Community Engagement, UNMC College of Nursing Omaha Division, the podcast features:

  • Beth Beam, Ph.D., assistant professor in the UNMC College of Nursing and project director for HEROES, which provides emergency preparedness training and education for health care providers;
  • Kalen Knight, nursing professional development specialist in the Nebraska Medicine emergency department; and
  • Shahnaz Benner, clinical program coordinator with the biocontainment unit and quarantine unit and a registered nurse in the emergency department at Nebraska Medicine.

During the episode, the team discusses preparation for COVID-19 patients, available resources, ways to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and how to address the fear and anxiety facing some individuals.
