Durham Museum hosting two events in May

The Durham Museum has invited the UNMC community to two events it is hosting in May.

The first, an online virtual event on Thursday, May 6, 6:30-7:30 p.m., features Darren Ferreter, owner of Model Railroad Dreams. Ferreter will be guiding participants through the Durham Museum’s railroad display and discuss efforts to enhance and improve this portion of the museum. He will also take questions about the space and showcase rarely seen parts of the exhibit. Registrants will receive a Zoom link via email in advance of the event. To register, email the Durham with a name, email and phone number. The Durham will send a confirmation email if space is available.

The second event is a members-only preview of the new exhibit “James Cameron — Challenging the Deep,” on Friday, May 21, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. This underwater world exhibit traces explorer and filmmaker Cameron’s passion for deep ocean science, technology and exploration, including material on his record-breaking dive to the bottom of the planet in the Deepsea Challenger, the submersible he co-designed and co-engineered. Timed tickets, masks and social distancing are required. Tickets are available on the hour with the last time slot at 3 p.m. To attend this event email the Durham with a name, email, phone number, number of people in the group and a desired time slot. The Durham will send a confirmation email if space is available.

As a reminder, the Durham Museum provides free museum admission for UNMC employees, students and their immediate family with a valid identification badge.
