College of Dentistry e-learning team receives funding award

Each year, through a competitive application process, the UNMC Office of E-Learning awards faculty and student teams for the creation of online, interactive modules.

The 13 teams selected for 2022-23 were recognized at the UNMC E-Learning Awards Meeting on Nov. 2. The projects will receive funding provided by the UNMC Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

A College of Dentistry team was selected to create the module “Beginner’s Guide to Clinical Dental Photography.”

Team members are:

  • Faculty Director: Amanda Ribeiro Wobido, DDS, MS, clinical instructor
  • Student Developers: Ryta Wodzinski and Yuliya Victorovna Vaniurskaya, second-year dental students
  • Additional Faculty Member: Shayla D. Yoachim, PhD, associate professor

“Our module will teach second-year dental students best practices for clinical dental photography before they start providing patient care in the college’s clinics,” Yuliya said. “This resource will help students understand the rules and order of clinical dental photography through interactive visuals.”

Yuliya and Ryta will work with Drs. Wobido and Yoachim and UNMC e-learning instructional design and technology experts to present the information in a format that appeals to today’s learners.

“This award was unexpected; we are very thankful to be able to work with and learn from Drs. Wobido and Yoachim, who are excellent instructors and mentors,” Ryta said.

The College of Dentistry team joins a group of more than 625 individuals who have participated in the UNMC E-Learning Program and created 275-plus e-modules, helping students master difficult concepts and advancing pedagogy and instructional design across interprofessional education.

The team will demonstrate the completed “Beginner’s Guide to Clinical Dental Photography” module at the UNMC E-Learning Showcase scheduled for April 2023.
