Last reminder: NUFlex Benefits Enrollment ends today

This is the last day of annual NUFlex Benefits Enrollment for University of Nebraska faculty and staff. Enrollment began Oct. 30 and will run through 5 p.m. Central Standard Time today (Friday, Nov. 17).

Items that need completed annually during this three-week period are:

  • Updating your tobacco/nicotine designation
  • Enrolling in Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) for 2024
  • Completing the Health Risk Assessment
  • Reviewing your life insurance beneficiaries
  • Verify your permanent address

Employees also have the ability to review their current benefit elections and make changes for 2024.

The department of human resources had been made aware that the IRS will increase its health care flexible spending limit for 2024 from $3,050 to $3,200. Currently, the electronic system will not allow UNMC employees to elect more than $3,050 for their health flexible spending account. The University of Nebraska system is working to adjust the limit; when these changes are in place, employees who have selected the $3,050 limit will be contacted and given the opportunity to increase that limit. In addition, the IRS also has increased the carryover amount to $640 in 2024.

Since changes are not allowed throughout the year, with the exception of a few Internal Revenue Service-approved life events, it is imperative that all employees log into Firefly, go into Employee Self Service (ESS), review and/or make desired changes and additions to their current benefits and then very carefully review their emailed confirmation statement.

The UNMC Benefits Office suggests everyone either print or save a copy for their records.

Below are resources for employees having trouble logging into Firefly:

  • Step-by-step guide to change your password
  • Firefly help desk phone number 402-559-BUZZ (2899)
  • Firefly help desk email

With questions or concerns pertaining to benefits enrollment, contact the benefits office to schedule a one-on-one meeting. Meetings can be scheduled via email or by calling 402-559-4340.
