Retirement planning is theme for faculty panel

The UNMC Office of Faculty Development will hold an interactive discussion on retirement titled, “Navigating What’s Next,” in an event designed specifically for all faculty.

The panel discussion will be April 18 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Sorrell Center, Room 1005, and via Zoom for UNMC faculty across the state. Faculty can RSVP for the retirement panel online, and email questions about the event or survey to the office of faculty development.

The event will offer current UNMC faculty and retirees to share their experiences, findings and plans for retirement. It is open to faculty at any rank or career stage, whether someone is planning to retire next year or in 20 years.

“Career transitions are a reality for any health sciences faculty member, and there is wisdom to be gained from those who have gone before us,” said Linda Love, EdD, director of faculty development. “Our goal is to help faculty purposefully imagine and design a future that works best for their unique situation and desires. And we’d like to hear from our community what late-career and retirement mentoring would be most useful to them.”

Attendees will receive a copy of a newly developed retirement guide, a resource compiled with broad input containing worksheets, checklists, retiree wisdom and activities related to retirement.

Faculty development also plans to share initial insights from the Retirement Attitudes and Preparedness Survey, which is currently underway. Faculty who haven’t completed the voluntary, IRB-approved, all-faculty survey can do so through this link.
