Meet the matches: David Watson

The UNMC 2024 Match Day celebration was held at the Scott Conference Center at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where eight out of 140 medical students at UNMC opened their envelopes and found they had matched to the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology.

Medical School: University of Kansas School of Medicine – Wichita

Why did you choose the medical field? I needed multiple knee surgeries in high school, so I saw just how impactful the healthcare system can be for people of all ages. This experience is what helped guide me into the medical field.

What made you choose anesthesiology? Witnessing firsthand how an anesthesiologist intubated, placed a central line, dosed multiple medications and resuscitated a patient in a span of minutes, all while remaining calm and focused. This versatile skillset, combined with my love for physiology and pharmacology, is why I chose anesthesiology.

List 3 accomplishments you are proud of:

1) My wife and I got married during our intern year and will be celebrating our 3 year anniversary this November.

2) Surviving intern year and being newlyweds while having 2 dogs under the age of 2.

3) Winning our medical school intramural basketball league while preparing/taking Step 1.

Three things about you that others may not know:

1) I love working on our lawn. I’ve spent significant time learning about the science of growing grass, plant hardiness zones and proper fertilizer ratios.

2) My wife and I are big fans of the Kansas City Chiefs, and most recently we traveled to Baltimore to watch them in the AFC Championship game.

3) We have 2 dogs, Beau (bernedoodle) and Hobbes (goldendoodle).
