Public health leadership institute accepting applications

The UNMC College of Public Health’s Great Plains Leadership Institute is accepting applications for its 19th cohort.

The institute is an immersive, year-long experience designed for emerging, mid-level and senior leaders from the Great Plains region and beyond, who play essential roles in keeping communities healthy. This year, the institute will have 27 scholars from Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, South Dakota and Minnesota.

Scholars come from various organizations, including governmental public health, medical institutions, community health centers, academic institutions, community-based organizations and the business community.

Interested clinicians, staff and faculty are encouraged to apply. Applications are open through June 7 and can be accessed on the UNMC College of Public Health web page.

The robust experiential curriculum includes on-site and distance-based learning, mentoring and coaching and collaborative practice projects. The curriculum is separated into eight distinct competencies that are covered throughout the year:

  • Owning your leadership identity;
  • Valuing culture and differences;
  • Developing others;
  • Leading positive change;
  • Influencing organizational culture;
  • Creating effective partnerships;
  • Building political savvy; and
  • Interpreting complex systems.

Scholars learn from experts in the field, including Great Plains Leadership Institute faculty, guest speakers and peer and professional mentors.
