Agnes Judge, affectionately called “Angel” by her friends, visited the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center on Sept. 24, sharing her story as a breast cancer survivor. In a nationwide tour, she has visited 40 cancer centers, including her visit to the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, to touch patients’ lives.
Judge, who is from South Carolina, praised the tranquil atmosphere at the cancer center, highlighting the significance of a healing environment. She was particularly taken with the artwork and the Chihuly Sanctuary. She enjoyed learning about the collaboration between clinicians and researchers that the cancer center was built to encourage.Â
Judge met with Phyllis Mitchell Butler and Julia Weathers, both breast cancer survivors who serve as navigators at the Nebraska Breast Health Navigation Program, supporting women in underserved communities and helping them navigate life after diagnosis. The program is led by Juan Santamaria, MD, UNMC Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology.
Judge contributed to the Oncology Patient and Family Assistance Fund, the goal of which is to relieve some of the financial stress that accompanies treatment.
She encourages resilience and tries to illustrate that joy and beauty can coexist in a cancer journey.
