Nominations for the Unsung Hero Award are open through Sunday, Dec. 1. Nominations can be sent to this form.

The med center’s 2025 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration will be on Monday, Jan. 20, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Truhlsen Events Center, first floor. It will include recognition of med center colleagues doing good work in the community and across the campus.

It is the fourth annual Unsung Hero Award, which will be presented during the event to a UNMC or Nebraska Medicine employee who:

  • Shows a positive attitude and professionalism at work.
  • Supports the community through volunteerism and service.
  • Performs outreach or offers encouragement.
  • Champions diversity personally and professionally.
  • Displays the organizational ITEACH values.

Last year, Jessica McGhee, a staff nurse with women’s services for Nebraska Medicine, and Brian O’Reilly, DPT, a physical therapist at Bellevue Medical Center, each won an Unsung Hero Award.
