Jessica Buell, CRNA, named Extraordinary Nurse

Nebraska Medicine has named CRNA Jessica Buell this year’s Extraordinary Nurse in the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology.

Buell, who is employed by both UNMC and Nebraska Medicine, was nominated by her peers and selected by department leaders for the honor, which is awarded annually by Nebraska Medicine during National Nurses Week.

Buell’s first role at Nebraska Medicine began in 2005, where she worked as an RN. Later, she worked in the cardiac ICU at Lincoln’s Bryan Hospital. Throughout her training, Buell enjoyed the people, organization, autonomy and teamwork she experienced. These factors combined ultimately influenced her decision to apply for a position as a CRNA at Nebraska Medicine and UNMC, a position she started in 2011. Today, her work continues to be as dynamic as it is rewarding.

Nominators and supervisors applauded her work ethic, saying she goes above and beyond to provide great patient care. Additionally, nominators said, Buell is hard-working, always positive and picks up for other others when needed.

“Jessica shows up every day with an excellent work ethic and attitude,” said Tiffany Olson, CRNA, chief of the UNMC Division of Nurse Anesthesia. “Her wealth of experience results in excellent patient care and makes her the perfect mentor and resource for her colleagues, and her work educating and supporting our Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists is truly exemplary.”
