Campus event today will honor Dr. Romberger

Debra Romberger, MD

The UNMC Department of Internal Medicine will be hosting a memorial event today from 4-6 p.m. to recognize the life and career of Debra Romberger, MD.

Mark Rupp, MD, interim chair of internal medicine, said: “Dr Debra Romberger had a large and lasting positive influence on the department and on UNMC. She was many things to many people: an inspirational servant-leader, a physician-scientist, a trusted mentor and advisor, a humanitarian, and she will long be missed.”

The event will be at the Wigton Heritage Center Dr. Leland and Dorothy Olson Atrium. The campus community is invited to attend.

Dr. Romberger, who died May 20 at the age of 70, retired as chair of the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine last year. She joined UNMC in 1988, becoming a faculty member in the division of pulmonary and critical care medicine only two years later.

After serving as interim chair of internal medicine both in 2004-05 and 2014-15, she was appointed Henry J. Lehnhoff Professor and Chair of the department in 2015, becoming the first woman to hold this role at UNMC.
