The gallery space on Level 1 of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center is hosting the exhibition “Regionalism Revisited” through Jan. 9, 2026.

The free exhibition is on view during regular visiting hours, 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the center on the Omaha campus.

“Regionalism Revisited” explores the enduring legacy of American Regionalism through a dialogue between its foundational figures and contemporary Midwestern artists. The exhibition brings together works by Thomas Hart Benton, John Steuart Curry, Grant Wood, Dale Nichols, Aaron Pyle and Roger Medearis – artists who, in the early to mid-20th century, sought to capture the spirit of rural life, the dignity of labor and the rhythms of the American heartland during a time of great cultural and economic change. Their scenes of everyday people and landscapes were deeply rooted in place and purpose, offering an alternative to urban modernism and international abstraction.

Decades later, that same impulse to reflect the character and complexities of the Midwest lives on in the work of contemporary artists like Keith Jacobshagen, Aaron Holz, Hal Holoun, Jenny Kruger and Dan Howard. Through close observation of the land, a deep engagement with light and atmosphere, and a reverence for the familiar, these artists offer fresh perspectives on the region. “Regionalism Revisited” invites viewers to consider how the themes of past generations – work,  land, community and memory – continue to evolve and resonate in the hands of artists today.

UNMC and Nebraska Medicine’s Healing Arts Program would like to thank Kiechel Fine Art for the loan of these artworks and assistance in organizing the exhibition.
