Annual opportunity to give starts next week

An opportunity for UNMC and Nebraska Medicine employees to give to local charities will begin next week. This annual event has taken place at the med center for several decades.

Employees will have the opportunity to support their community through two different pathways:

  • United Way of the Midlands, which supports a variety of human-service program providers across the Omaha/Council Bluffs area. United Way-supported programs create life-changing opportunities by meeting the basic needs of the area’s most vulnerable populations, supporting children during their academic years and helping to prepare young people for productive careers. Click here to view a list of supported programs.
  • Give Nebraska, which connects donors to the causes they care about most. With more than 70 non-profit agencies to choose from, donors can determine where their money goes. A list of supported agencies can be found here.

Those unable to contribute financially can provide support in different ways — like encouragement, volunteering or spreading kindness — that also make a difference. Employees can participate in the campaign this year by selecting “no donation.”

Find more information on the campaign below.

When:

  • Giving begins Monday, Sept. 8, and runs through Friday, Sept. 19.

How to give:

  • United Way of the Midlands: On Monday, Sept. 8, employees will receive an email from United Way of the Midlands (epledge@uwmidlands.org) that walks them through the donation process. Individuals already familiar with the process can use the link provided in that day’s UNMC Today story.
  • Give Nebraska: Employees can click on the link provided in the UNMC Today story on Monday, Sept. 8.

Incentives for 2025:

  • Employees who pledge a minimum of $20 will be eligible to win a prize each week of the campaign, including tickets to the Husker football game on Oct. 4 against Michigan State. Donations made by Fridays at 3 p.m. qualify for that week’s drawing, as well as subsequent drawings.
  • Employees who participate in the campaign, including those who log a “no donation” response, will be eligible for the weekly prizes, excluding the Husker tickets.
  • The earlier the donation, the better the chance at winning.
  • Drawing winners will be notified via email.
