New finance course for emerging academic leaders
UNMC is offering a new professional development course titled “Finance Fundamentals for Academic Leaders,” designed to equip new deans and academic leaders with essential financial management skills.
The course will run from Feb. 6-27, with sessions held Fridays from 1-2 p.m. CST via Zoom.
Tailored for those with limited experience in academic budgeting and resource management, the course will cover topics such as organizational finance structures, budget formats, revenue generation, philanthropy and grant management. Participants will engage in interactive webinars led by seasoned professionals from UNMC College of Nursing and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The course offers 4.0 ANCC contact hours provided by UNMC College of Nursing Continuing interProfessional Development and Innovation. Early bird registration is $299 through Dec. 31, increasing to $349 in January. Registration closes Jan. 31.

UNMC storefront updates
The UNMC Bookstore Sidewalk Sale, now underway with 30% off clearance, will run until Dec. 23.
Spring 2026 textbooks also are available.
The bookstore will close early on Dec. 19 and be open from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. It will close for winter break from Wednesday, Dec. 24, through Sunday, Jan. 4. The store will return to normal hours on Monday, Jan. 5.
The Sorrell Center convenience store will be closed for winter break from Monday, Dec. 22, through Tuesday, Jan. 6. It will return to normal hours on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
Updates to email anti-phishing policy
UNMC and Nebraska Medicine information security turned on a new anti-phishing policy for all users on Nov. 17. Anyone missing expected emails should check their junk email folder.
If a legitimate sender is getting filtered more than usual, open a ServiceNow ticket so any issues can be investigated.
