UNMC, Nebraska Medicine to host Unsung Hero Awards luncheon

Judith Hill

UNMC and Nebraska Medicine will host the 2026 Unsung Hero Awards luncheon on Friday, March 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Truhlsen Event Center.

The Unsung Hero Awards recognize individuals whose dedication, service and commitment often occur behind the scenes but make a meaningful impact.

Awards are presented across several categories recognizing staff, faculty and students whose dedication to service, mentorship, leadership and community engagement strengthens both campus and community.

This year, the awards will be celebrated as a standalone luncheon, offering a dedicated opportunity to recognize those who embody the spirit of service through volunteerism, mentorship, outreach, encouragement and leadership in their workplace or community.

The program will feature keynote speaker Judith Hill, executive director of the North Omaha Collective. Hill leads a community-based nonprofit focused on advancing healing-centered engagement through training, outreach and collaborative partnerships. Her work supports culturally responsive practices that strengthen relationships among youth, families, institutions and community organizations while fostering resilience and long-term well-being.

The luncheon is open to faculty, staff, students and community members. Lunch will be provided for the first 75 registered in-person attendees, and those interested in attending this in-person only event are encouraged to RSVP in advance at this link.
