How I became interested in anesthesiology, nursing and clinical research: I started in the perioperative setting 14 years ago as a surgical technologist and later transitioned to a circulating nurse. I decided to take the leap into nursing because there are vast opportunities for nurses career-wise. I wanted to continue in my pursuit of helping others, and nursing offered ways to expand my impact and knowledge with patient care. I am excited about this role because it allows me to learn something new while still contributing to improving patient outcomes through research and still being involved in my passion for perioperative care.

Research interests: IntraOp Ox – For its potential to identify the optimal strategy for intraoperative oxygen administration to reduce perioperative organ injury and death.
Medical interests: I am interested in evidence-based practice in the perioperative area.

How I fell in love with surgery: The main reason why I fell in love with surgery was because I can give dedicated care to one patient at a time. I also enjoy the team aspect of perioperative services; you are truly never alone, and there is always someone there to support you when needed. I was interested in the anesthesia department because I have always admired my anesthesia colleague’s dedication to patient safety and team collaboration.
Three things people may not know about me:
- I studied Japanese in high school for four years and have been to Japan twice.
- I went to a one-room country schoolhouse kindergarten through fourth grade.
- I do CrossFit.
