Two house officers in UNMC’s Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology have been awarded scholarships to attend the 2026 CAP Pathologists Leadership Summit.

Marika Forsythe, MD, a molecular genetic pathology fellow, and Holly Mitzel, MD, a second-year pathology resident, received $1,500 travel awards from the Nebraska Association of Pathologists (NAP) to support their attendance at this year’s leadership summit, set for April 25-28 in Washington, D.C.

The four-day gathering of CAP leadership, pathologists and health care professionals involves sharing insights with and gaining expertise from leading pathologists and health care leaders; discussing critical issues in pathology, laboratory medicine and health care policy; and providing a platform for networking, advocacy and strategic planning for the profession. The gathering culminates in “Hill Day,” which involves meeting with congressional representatives and their staff to advocate for policies that protect and advance pathology.
