Imagine a Broadway musical likened to “Hamilton,” telling the story of the women who fought for the right to vote. “Suffs,” running May 5-10 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Lied Center for Performing Arts, is funny, inspiring and deeply moving — bringing to life the voices of women who challenged the status quo.

Direct from Broadway, this Tony Award-winning musical brings the fight for equality to life in a thrilling theatrical event. Created by Shaina Taub, the first woman to ever independently win Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Score in the same season, “Suffs” connects the past to the present in a way that feels personal and hopeful.

The musical is recommended for ages 10-plus; mature language involved.

Making its Nebraska premiere, “Suffs” also features a special connection to Nebraska through suffragist Doris Stevens. Stevens, a key figure in the musical and a real suffragist from Nebraska, stands as a reminder that voices from the Heartland helped shape national change.

The Lied Center for Performing Arts is offering $59 best available balcony tickets for UNMC students and employees for this show.
