Lunch and Learn to focus on communication during change

Sharon Storch, PhD

UNMC Campus Engagement, in partnership with the med center’s Emerging Professionals Program, will host a Lunch and Learn on Wednesday, May 7, from noon to 1 p.m., in the Sorrell Center, Room 3030, focused on effective communication during times of change.

Titled “Communication During Change: Staying Clear, Connected and Concise,” the session will feature Sharon Storch, PhD, of the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Dr. Storch is an associate professor in the UNO School of Communication.

The session will explore how communication is interpreted and experienced during times of change and evolving workplaces. Dr. Storch will guide participants through practical strategies for staying clear, consistent and connected in fast-paced environments, while also recognizing how communication can be shaped by timing, delivery and audience.

It will include opportunities for discussion and interaction, including activities focused on active listening and adapting communication styles across different workplace scenarios. Participants will explore how generational perspectives, communication preferences and experience levels can influence how messages are received and understood.

Designed for staff across clinical, academic and operational areas, the session will emphasize tools that can be applied immediately in day-to-day work.

The event will be offered in a hybrid format. Lunch will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for in-person attendees.
