After careful consideration, UNMC leadership has made the difficult decision to close the Child Development Center due to a combination of operational and financial challenges.
The center, housed in the UNMC Administration Center at 40th Street and Dewey Avenue, was established in 1991 as a childcare resource for students and employees of UNMC and Nebraska Medicine.
The final day of operations will be Aug. 14.
Linda Cunningham, assistant vice chancellor and executive director of UNMC Human Resources, said she understands the vital role that the center has played in supporting its families. Cunningham said the decision to cease operations was not made lightly, but nevertheless was necessary at this time.
“We are deeply grateful for the trust families have placed in us to care for and support their children,” Cunningham said. “It has been a privilege to be part of their growth, learning and daily experiences. The relationships built within this community are meaningful, and we sincerely appreciate the opportunity to serve our families.”
UNMC Human Resources will offer support to families through this transition.
