Quan Ly, MD, named to ACS workforce group

Quan Ly, MD

Quan Ly, MD, a professor in the UNMC Division of Surgical Oncology, has been named a member of the American College of Surgeons Inclusive Excellence Collaborative Advocacy & Surgical Workforce Workgroup.

Dr. Ly’s three-year term in this role will allow her to play a part in enhancing ACS activities on the workforce and pathway continuum through focused collaboration and coordination across all areas, with focus also on surgeon workforce pipeline and retention, legislative feedback and advocacy initiatives.

“I am quite honored and excited to be part of this workgroup within the American College of Surgeons, because it allows me to take what I am working on locally to a national level,” Dr. Ly said.

In addition to partnering with ACS educational groups, the workgroup serves as a quick response team for reviewing ACS-relevant legislation and promoting pathway opportunities for all aspiring surgeons.

“I can think of no one better suited to become a member to the ACS Inclusive Excellence Collaborative Advocacy and Surgical Workforce Workgroup than Dr. Quan Ly,” said David W. Mercer, MD, chair of surgery.

“Dr. Ly has worked tirelessly in the department of surgery and throughout the organization and community to advocate for inclusion and opportunities for everyone. She is quite passionate about her work in this area, and as a result she was appointed vice chair of culture and advocacy to oversee these activities in the department.

“In the community, she has hosted a health care career fair and tour for Benson High School students as well as Doane College students. Moreover, she organized and hosted the first community cancer screening initiative for both North and South Omaha a little over a year ago. We are indebted to her for her contributions.”
