Three to join Interim Chancellor Davies at June 8 forum

UNMC Interim Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD

UNMC faculty, staff and students are invited to join Interim Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD, on June 8, for this month’s all-campus forum, which will cover initiatives in military medicine and women’s health.

Dr. Davies will be joined by three guests:

  • Col. Lee Williames, MD, inaugural director of the Office for the Advancement of Military Medicine and associate professor of the Munroe-Meyer Institute for Genetics and Rehabilitation;
  • Chris Kratochvil, MD,vice president for external relations for the NU System, vice chancellor for external relations at UNMC and distinguished chair of the Global Center for Health Security; and
  • Sarosh Rana, MD, professor and chair of the UNMC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

The all-campus forum will take place from noon to 12:50 p.m. in Williams Science Hall, Room 1.0.009, on the Omaha campus. The forum also will be available via Zoom; the link can be found on the campus intranet.

Col. Williames and Dr. Kratochvil will highlight the recently established Office of the Advancement of Military Medicine, which facilitates UNMC’s military medicine, biodefense and civilian-military health integration programming. As a central hub, the office will develop new initiatives and simplify health engagement with the U.S. Department of War and its relevant federal health security partners.

Earlier this year, Dr. Rana, who joined UNMC last August, received a $4.6 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to advance the development of a potentially groundbreaking treatment for preeclampsia, a life-threatening pregnancy disorder that affects millions of women worldwide. She will provide an update on screening and preventive practices in Nebraska.

Dr. Davies also will provide general updates on other UNMC-related topics.

Questions may be asked during or before the forum. To ask a question in advance, email the UNMC Strategic Communications team. An American Sign Language interpreter will take part in the event.
