UNMC residents and fellows displayed research posters and gave oral presentations at the eighth annual Graduate Medical Education Research Symposium, held May 12 in the Truhlsen Events Center.
.House officers presented their research in areas such as clinical outcomes, basic science, education, business, health policy, and humanities.

There were approximately 130 research abstracts – in both oral and poster formats – presented at the event.
UNMC Interim Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD, and Bradley Britigan, MD, dean of the UNMC College of Medicine, provided opening remarks.
Chandrakanth Are, MBBS, senior associate dean for graduate medical education, said the event “is a wonderful venue for residents and fellows to showcase their valuable research.”
Abstracts presented at the symposium will be included in the Graduate Medical Education Research Journal, Volume 8, Issue 1, set to be published this month.
Awards were given to the best abstracts in the oral and poster categories. The award winners are:

Dr. Are thanked “the entire GME Office, particularly Premila Leiphrakpam, MBBS, GME research and education program manager, for the hard work that contributed to the success of the event.”
He also noted the contributions of GME office members Erin Snow, Amy Guziec, Arianne Marcoux, Rachel Nelsen, and Jeanne Badura, as well as Candace Peteler, campus events center coordinator.
“They were instrumental in organizing the symposium,” he said.
