How I fell in love with dentistry and rural health:

Prior to accepting this new role at UNMC, I worked full time as a general dentist for the largest dental nonprofit in Minnesota — Community Dental Care — as I earned my MPH from the University of Minnesota. Having the opportunity to serve patients in a community-health setting while concurrently learning concepts and strategies to improve my understanding of public health was special. It allowed me a new perspective for the impact of care I provided, the importance of meeting people where they are and the potential mindfulness can have in the dental profession.

Education:

  • Undergraduate at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota
  • DDS, UNMC College of Dentistry
  • MPH, University of Minnesota, College of Public Health

Memberships:

  • American Dental Association

Three things people might not know about me:

  • I really enjoy Saturday Night Live. A few years ago, I was randomly selected through the SNL ticket lottery to go to a live show and got to sit in the third row on the main stage. It was awesome.
  • In high school, my softball team was the national champion in the U16 League. I later brought my skills to dental school and played on a co-ed team called the “Flosse Posse.” Our local dental lab kindly sponsored us.
  • While I normally prefer the fantasy genre for a free reading book, and while I don’t normally read a book more than once, I’ve re-read “Pride and Prejudice” more times than I can count, usually on an annual basis.
