Meet Ian Susa, a student at Doane University who hails from Bogota, Colombia. Below, he shares a little bit about himself.
What you should know about me: I have been playing soccer since I was 3 years old
As an INBRE Scholar, I work: In the UNMC lab of Vinai Thomas, PhD, and research intrinsic resistance of d-Cycloserine in Staphylococcus aureus.
I chose to participate in the INBRE program because: It’s a great way to get experience in a real lab. It’s also going to help me figure out my path after graduation, giving me a real look at what it’s like to be a PhD student.
As an INBRE scholar, I want to learn: As much as I can from the lab and use all this new knowledge to start my own research. I would also like to improve my public speaking and presentation skills by presenting to large groups.
I get excited about science because: I just love science because it’s part of everything, and it helps us explain how the world around us works. Plus, I like how it forces you to think outside the box, and it’s a great feeling when you finally solve a problem.
If I had my own research lab, I would study: Synergy between phage therapy and antibiotics
Fun fact about me: I graduated during the COVID-19 pandemic.
