NE-INBRE spotlight: Meet scholar Mollie Nielsen of UNO

Mollie Nielsen

Meet Mollie Nielsen, an INBRE Scholar for the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Below, Mollie answers questions about herself.

What you should know about me: I love science to the point that I do it in my free time by baking sourdough bread.

As an INBRE Scholar, I work in the lab of: UNMC’s Karen Gould, PhD. We research the effects of hormones and B-cell development in autoimmune diseases like Lupus.

I chose to participate in the INBRE program because: It gave me the opportunity to engage in really cool research with professionals who are eager to teach and learn alongside you.

As an INBRE Scholar, this summer I want to: Learn more about immunology and the research behind it as well as work on planning my research goals for the future

I get excited about science because: I get to solve problems and use my logistical personality every day.

If I had my own research lab, I would study: Anything to do with anatomy or immunology. I love learning about how the body works and why small things can have a big impact.

Fun fact: I love baking and spending time in the kitchen!
