As summer winds down, check out all the events that UNMC community partners are offering as we head into the fall.
Step into the magic of Disney and discover the iconic looks of some of your favorite Disney characters in “Heroes & Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume.” The exhibit showcases nearly 70 mesmerizing ensembles spanning close to five decades of Disney film and television, including Cinderella, Maleficent, Mary Poppins, Captain Jack Sparrow and Aladdin. The exhibit is open now and runs through Oct. 25.

Fontenelle Forest
Come experience the annual thrill of watching the Perseids Meteor Shower at Neale Woods on Aug. 13. The event will begin with a brief evening hike on dirt-packed trails through the prairie and forest. Then as night falls, stargaze and watch for shooting stars while learning about meteor showers and general astronomy from the staff and volunteers. This event will run from 9-11 p.m. Dress appropriately for the weather, wear good walking shoes and bring a water bottle. Please bring a folding chair or blanket to sit on while stargazing and be ready to hike a short distance on easy to moderate terrain with your chair to the meteor shower viewing area. $10 for members; $25 for non-members. Pre-registration is required.

Lauritzen Gardens
Now through Sept. 7, step into a prehistoric adventure at Lauritzen Gardens with “Dinosaurs Around the World: The Great Outdoors.” Produced by Imagine, this immersive traveling exhibition transforms the garden into a journey across ancient Earth, where life-sized animatronic dinosaurs roar, move and captivate visitors of all ages. Encounter incredible species from around the globe—from the mighty T. rex of North America to the powerful Spinosaurus of Africa and the duck-billed Hadrosaur of Antarctica. With more than a dozen dinosaurs to discover, each stop reveals how these fascinating creatures lived, moved, and adapted to their environments

Omaha Children’s Museum
Get ready to experience the heart and soul of Italy like never before at Omaha Children’s Museum through its newest cultural exhibit, “Ciao Bambini!” This immersive, educational experience is designed to transport children and their families to the enchanting world of Italy, where history, art and culture come to life. “Ciao Bambini!” is a nationally traveling exhibit created by The Magic House, St. Louis Children’s Museum in collaboration with the St. Louis Italian community.

Omaha Community Playhouse
Sept. 11-Oct. 11, “Come From Away.” In the wake of the events of Sep. 11, 2001, 38 commercial airplanes carrying nearly 7,000 passengers from around the world were unexpectedly diverted to the small town of Gander, Newfoundland. The musical “Come From Away” celebrates the kindness, resilience and human connection that emerged during an extraordinary moment in history. Tickets start at $36. The Rose Theater
Sept. 11-27, “Just Ask!” As a diverse group of kids gathers to create a community garden, they learn about one another’s abilities, challenges and strengths. They discover that each of them has a unique way of being in the world and that those very differences are what make their friendships and their garden bloom. Featuring multicultural songs in the spirit of “Schoolhouse Rock”and “Sesame Street,” this colorful musical will help you learn how to “just ask” about what makes each of us extraordinary. Omaha Symphony
Aug. 27, 6:30 p.m., Issa Trap Symphony. A one-night-only performance that will blend genres and explore new sounds, Issa Trap Symphony will feature Afrofusion artists Kevin Paradise, Joe.EZ, AJII and Kusher Snazzy, accompanied by a string ensemble of Omaha Symphony musicians. This event also will feature Ray Bae the DJ, DJ Afrobaddie, Big Wade & Black Swan Theory, Jevon Woods, and artist Menice “Mars” Blackman. A post-program mixer will be held after the concert.
