Mental health challenges can affect anyone, and knowing how to respond can make a meaningful difference. UNMC Campus Engagement, in partnership with the Office of Community Engagement, Region 6 Behavioral Healthcare and the UNMC Department of Psychiatry, will hold Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training in September and October.
MHFA is an internationally recognized, evidence-based training that equips participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to recognize and respond to someone experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge.
Training opportunities:

8:30 a.m-5 p.m.
Community Wellness Collaborative, 2120 N. 29th Street, Suite 200 Omaha, NE 68111

Participants will learn how:
- Understand the importance of early intervention.
- Recognize signs and symptoms through skills-based scenarios.
- Explain and use the Mental Health First Aid action plan.
- Address stigma and understand that recovery is possible.
- Ensure safety and privacy during conversations.
- Practice self-care strategies for themselves and others.
Faculty, staff and other colleagues are encouraged to register early and coordinate with their supervisor to attend. Eligible Nebraska Medicine colleagues may use designated Community Strong hours to participate.
