NU Regents approve university representatives to Nebraska Medicine board

The University of Nebraska Board of Regents approved four individuals to represent the university on the Nebraska Medicine board during a special meeting Friday (Sept. 25).

The new board members are: Tonn Ostergard, CEO and chairman of Crete Carrier Corporation; Paul Kenney; chair of the NU Board of Regents; Jim Scheer, vice chair of the NU Board of Regents; and Regent Joel Makovicka.

“On behalf of the University, I am grateful to these individuals for stepping forward to serve on the Nebraska Medicine Board during this pivotal time,” said NU President Jeffrey P. Gold, MD. “Together with their colleagues representing the Omaha Community Foundation, the new members of the Nebraska Medicine Board will help write the future of Nebraska health care.”

The approval of the new board members marks the next step in formalizing Nebraska Medicine’s new governance structure. During a special meeting in September, the Board of Regents approved the addition of the Omaha Community Foundation as a governing member of Nebraska Medicine.

The board, which begins its service on Oct. 1, brings leadership experience from health care, business, public service and agriculture.
