Twenty-two undergraduate students are spending the summer at UNMC doing research.

They are called INBRE scholars and are part of the largest grant in UNMC history.

Today we feature Taylor Friemel, a junior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln majoring in forensic science.

What is it about science that excites you?

Previous Profiles

There is always something new in the field, it isn’t something that is a dead end, there is always a new discovery or something else to work on or be a part of.

Will you pursue a career in science? If so, what do you hope to accomplish?

As of right now — definitely. I have slowly come to realize how much I like the subject matter and I love learning new ways to study things. I hope to help make discoveries in biomedical medicine and eventually help people.

Why is it important to have programs like INBRE?

It is important to have programs like this because this program is helping me decide what part of science I want to be a part of and what area excites me most.

Without the opportunity to do that, most students do not get that chance.
