Spirit Week 2013 a huge success

More than 1,000 students, faculty and staff took part in UNMC’s 2013 Spirit Week.

Held from Oct. 28 to 31 on UNMC campuses throughout the state, Spirit Week celebrates the work employees do to make UNMC a vital resource to so many.

New events, such as a statewide costume contest and free massages proved popular, with more than 40 people showing up in costume on the Omaha campus alone.

Following Facebook voting on Monday, the final winner of the costume contest was medical student Lee Sleightholm as Jesus. He wins two tickets to Nebraska’s football game against Michigan State on Nov. 16.

More than 60 people also participated in a scavenger hunt held on the Omaha campus, and free coffee and pastries at the five UNMC campuses drew hundreds of people.

“Spirit Week is a chance not only for UNMC employees and students to show their ‘school spirit,’ but also a chance to celebrate the work that UNMC accomplishes statewide,” said event coordinator Anna Kirshenbaum.

Also: There are still seven UNMC icons hidden throughout the Omaha campus. Find them and return them to the public relations department in the 4230 building to receive a prize.
